The Customer
Core Sash Windows is a London-based timber window and door installer with 18 years of experience. Their work spans heritage restoration, period property refurbishment and bespoke new sash window installations across the capital.
The Challenge
For most of their history, Core Sash Windows had used lead sash weights — assuming that steel weights would bring organisational difficulties that would outweigh any cost savings. However, in a discussion about reducing material costs, they decided to investigate switching to steel.
Two key requirements had to be met before they would commit to a new supplier:
- Competitive pricing — their accountant searched the market for the best value steel weight supplier
- Custom labelling — buying hundreds of weights per month with no proper identification system would rapidly become chaotic on site, with weights getting mixed up between jobs and causing installation delays
The labelling requirement was particularly important. Without a reliable system for marking each weight with the customer reference and window identifier (“L1”, “L2” etc.), any cost savings from switching could easily be lost to site-level confusion and wasted fitter time.
The Solution
Heaps, Arnold & Heaps Ltd was approached for an initial quote. Two things stood out immediately:
- Response speed — the initial enquiry was answered within minutes, not days. All subsequent communications have maintained the same speed, with responses typically within 10–20 minutes.
- Labelling capability — Marc Briscoe at Heaps Arnold confirmed the custom labelling could be organised exactly as Core Sash Windows specified. Each weight is marked with the customer name and window number to tally with the paperwork their fitters use on site.
The custom labelling has been delivered consistently from the first order onwards. Core Sash Windows reports they have never had to check up on the labelling system and have never received an incorrectly labelled weight.
The steel weights themselves are pre-cut to the required size with a hole at the top for sash cord attachment — meaning fitters can insert weights directly into the window box without needing to weigh sashes or cut materials on site.
The Outcome
We’ve been very impressed with the service and price we’ve gotten from Heaps Arnold and we intend to use them for years to come. Switching suppliers of any product can be a daunting experience but from the get go Marc let us know that we were in good hands. We have no regrets in switching from our old supplier!
All in all I can’t recommend these guys enough, and from a sash window installer who’s been in this business for 18 years — there really are some hardworking and dedicated firms out there. You just have to keep trying to find them!
