Heaps, Arnold & Heaps Ltd manufactures lead castings at our Rotherham facility for customers across the UK marine, construction, nuclear, medical, defence and industrial engineering sectors. With over 250 years of lead casting experience — established 1770 — we produce cast lead components from single prototypes through to multi-tonne production runs.
Our lead castings include lead ballast weights, counterweight shell fill, radiation shielding fill, machining blanks and fully bespoke lead castings produced to customer drawings, patterns or samples. We cast pure refined lead, antimonial lead and tin/lead alloys, and offer secondary machining (drilling, tapping, milling, turning) in-house so finished lead castings can be supplied to final dimensions.

Standard Lead Castings
While most of our casting work is bespoke, the majority of orders fall into a few well-defined categories that we produce regularly.
Ballast Lead Castings
Cast lead ballast weights for marine, offshore, civil engineering and industrial applications where high-density mass is required in a compact volume. Lead’s density (11.34 g/cm³) makes it the material of choice where weight-to-volume ratio is imperative.

Counterweight Shell Fill
Lead is regularly used as a high-density filler poured into pre-fabricated counterweight shells for industrial equipment, crane jibs, elevator counterweights, architectural counterweights and lifting equipment. We cast lead directly into supplied shells, or produce standalone fill blocks dimensioned to fit:

Radiation Shielding Fill

Where customers need to machine their own lead components to highly specific tolerances, we supply lead machining blanks — solid cast lead in standard or bespoke geometries, sized to suit the customer’s CNC or manual machining operation.
